NDIS counselling and therapy

Advance Minds is a registered NDIS provider. If your plan has funding under CB Daily Activity, it can pay for therapy here.

Available online by secure video anywhere in Australia, or in person at Bankstown.

NDIS is how you pay, not what you get

This is the part that confuses most people, and it is worth being plain about. There is no separate "NDIS therapy" that is different from the therapy everyone else receives. You see the same team, doing the same work, in the same rooms or over the same video call. The only difference is where the money comes from.

Advance Minds is registered with the NDIS as a provider. That registration sits with the practice, not with each individual therapist, which is what allows the team to deliver therapy paid for through a participant's plan.

The funding comes out of CB Daily Activity, a Capacity Building category in your plan. If there is money in that category, it can be used for counselling and therapy here.

What your plan can and cannot cover here

Not covered by your plan

  • Drug and alcohol counselling
  • Gambling addiction counselling
  • Pornography addiction counselling

Addiction therapy is not included in CB Daily Activity. Those services are still available here, they are simply paid for privately rather than through your plan. See drug and alcohol counselling.

Common questions

Which part of my NDIS plan pays for this?

Therapy here is funded through CB Daily Activity, which is a Capacity Building category in your plan. If you are not sure whether your plan has funding in that category, your plan manager, support coordinator or local area coordinator can tell you, and you are welcome to ask us before you book.

Do the individual therapists need to be NDIS registered?

No. Registration sits with the practice rather than with each therapist. Advance Minds is the registered provider, which is what allows the team to deliver therapy funded through your plan.

Can I use my plan for addiction counselling?

No. Addiction therapy is not included in what can be funded through CB Daily Activity, so drug, alcohol and gambling counselling are paid for privately rather than through your plan. Those services are still available, just not on NDIS funding.

Do I need a referral or a diagnosis to book?

No referral is needed. You can book directly through the website. What matters is that your plan has funding in the right category, not that anyone has referred you.

Can sessions happen at home or online?

Sessions run by secure video anywhere in Australia, or in person at the Bankstown rooms. Video suits a lot of participants because it removes the travel and the waiting room entirely.

I am self-managed, plan-managed or agency-managed. Does that change anything?

No. We work with participants under all three, and we hold our own NDIS provider number.

Not sure whether your plan covers it?

Ask us before you book. It is a quick answer, and it is better than finding out afterwards.

Book Appointment

Before you book: the form asks for a few details, including an emergency contact. If you do not have a diagnosis, writing "none" is a perfectly good answer. And if you are booking for someone else, say so in the "relationship to client" field and we will work it out from there. If there is a particular therapist you would like to see, put their name in the "Additional Information" box and we will take it into account.
