What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding to eligible individuals with disabilities, helping them enjoy more time with family and friends, achieve greater independence, gain access to new skills, employment or volunteer opportunities, and improve their overall quality of life.

In addition to funding, the NDIS connects people with disabilities to community services. These services include access to doctors, community organizations, sports clubs, support groups, libraries, and schools. It also provides information on the types of support available through state and territory governments.

Currently, the NDIS supports over 500,000 Australians with disabilities, ensuring they receive the services and assistance they need. This includes around 80,000 children with developmental delays, providing them with early intervention to help them achieve the best possible outcomes throughout their lives.

For more information, you can refer to the Participant Service Charter.

Accessible resources, including booklets and factsheets on how to apply for the NDIS, are available online.

Additionally, the NDIS is implementing a new computer system and making improvements to enhance the way services are delivered. Stay updated on these changes and find out what’s coming next.
