Working with organisations

Alongside its clinical practice, Advance Minds works with employers, HR teams and legal practitioners. Three services, and they are usually bought for very practical reasons: a workforce under strain, a policy that needs to hold up, or a matter with a court date attached.

The practice is Sydney based, in Bankstown, and counselling is delivered by secure video anywhere in Australia. Engagements range from a single report to an ongoing program.

Common questions

How does an employee assistance program work?

The employer arranges it, and staff then book confidential counselling sessions directly without going through their manager. It is used for the ordinary reasons people struggle at work and outside it: stress, relationships, grief, money worry, alcohol and drugs, and conflict at work. Sessions run online across Australia or in person in Bankstown.

Does the employer find out what staff talk about?

No. Individual sessions are confidential and content is not reported back to an employer. What an employer can reasonably receive is usage at an aggregate level, so the program can be evaluated without identifying anybody. There are limits set by law where somebody is at risk of serious harm, and those apply to every client of the practice.

What does an EAP cost, and how is it priced?

We start with an initial consultation at $179.99, where we work out what your organisation actually needs. From there we provide a tailored costing based on the services required.

Our admin team then works with you to get the documentation in place so your staff can access therapy.

What is a pre-court report?

A professionally prepared report setting out an individual's circumstances and a structured treatment plan, for a court to consider. It is used most often where alcohol or drug use sits behind the offence and the court wants to see what is already in place rather than a promise. It is prepared by the practice, and it is an independent professional document rather than an advocate's submission.

Who usually arranges a pre-court report?

Usually the solicitor, sometimes the individual directly. Either works. The practical thing is to make contact as early as possible, because a report is stronger when it can describe treatment that has genuinely started than when it describes an intention formed the week before a hearing.

How long does a report take, and what does it cost?

Reports are prepared and delivered within three to five days of payment being received. The cost varies depending on the report type and will be confirmed with you during the session.

What we can provide:

  • Treatment plans
  • A counselling progress report
  • A factual summary of sessions attended
  • Observations made during therapy
  • Clinical impressions that fall within the therapist's qualifications and scope of practice
  • Recommendations for ongoing counselling or interventions
  • Information about the client's engagement, attendance and therapeutic progress

What does the drug and alcohol testing service cover?

Pre-employment testing, mobile on-site testing at your workplace, and support with your workplace drug and alcohol policy. Testing and policy work are frequently bought together, because a test result is only as useful as the policy that says what happens next.

Can counselling and testing be arranged for the same workplace?

Yes, and it is a common combination, particularly in construction, transport and trades. It is worth being deliberate about keeping the two separate in the way staff experience them, so that support does not get confused with surveillance, and that is worth a conversation at the start rather than after the first positive result.

Do you work with organisations outside Sydney?

Counselling is delivered by secure video anywhere in Australia, so an employee assistance program is not limited by geography. On-site testing is a physical service and depends on location, so ask when you enquire.
